WORLD CUP HISTORY
Colombia premiered at a FIFA World Cup in Chile in 1962, but it transcended internationally in the 90's, when, with a golden generation led by Carlos Valderrama, it was classified to three consecutive editions, those of Italy 1990, USA 1994 and France 1998. However, only exceeded the first phase on Italian soil. Although it took 16 years to return to a World Cup, the quarterfinals of Brazil 2014 are their best historical performance.

Stellar James Rodriguez leads a core of young and talented players who stand out in major leagues. Under the leadership of José Pekerman, that sum of individualities became a solid and balanced team, attacking with associated play but also know how to defend.
The coach
José Pekerman is considered one of the people responsible for the refoundation of the Colombia squad. The Argentine took over in early 2012, and since then he has not only given back the possibility of playing a FIFA World Cup, but also that identity of good game that made Colombian football known. With that label, Pekerman already had success with both the youthful and with the absolute selection of his country, with which he was quarterfinalista in Germany 2006.
Speaking numbers
Five There are five World Cups that Colombia has played so far, making it the fifth selection in South America with more presence. Only Brazil (20), Argentina (16), Uruguay (12) and Paraguay (8) exceeded it.
